POSITION TITLE: ACCOUNT CLERK III (REGIONAL)
STATUS: Permanent | Full-Time (1.0 FTE)
SALARY: $3,484 per month | SR11 | BU03
LOCATION: This is a regional position in the General Accounting department of the Hawai’i Health Systems Corporation (HHSC) Kaua’i Region, a public benefit corporation of the State of Hawai’i. HHSC Kaua’i Region consists of Kaua’i Veterans Memorial Hospital (KVMH) and Samuel Mahelona Memorial Hospital (SMMH), both critical access hospitals; The Kaua’i Region Clinics; and its affiliates.
The regional General Accounting department provides a variety of fiscal services including bookkeeping, billing and collections, budgetary control, purchasing, and inventory, and informs the administration of financial condition; provides general accounting services, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and inventory; and maintains financial data for budget preparation, implementation, and control.
JOB FUNCTIONS: The primary responsibility of the Account Clerk III (Regional) is to assist and ensure the accuracy and timely processing of the accounting functions at all Kaua’i Region facilities including but not limited to: all aspects of all regional general accounting procedures, month-end closing, accounts receivable, collections and payments, accounts payable, and payroll, and leave records, etc. This position requires completion of a large volume of work within a limited time.
The Account Clerk III (Regional) will be required to report to and from other facilities regularly as determined by the department manager/supervisor to perform all of Kaua’i Region Facilities accounting aspects. This position necessitates daily transportation from Kaua’i Veterans Memorial Hospital to local banks in Waimea. The Account Clerk III is not provided with a vehicle and is expected to utilize their vehicle for this purpose. Employees may submit claims for mileage reimbursement during each pay period.
The Account Clerk III (Regional) reports to the Accountant V (Accounting Manager), position number 20743, or its designee.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
To qualify, you must meet all of the following requirements. Please note that unless specifically indicated, the required education and experience may not be gained concurrently. In addition, qualifying work experiences are credited based on a 40-hour workweek. All applicants are required to provide evidence of all applicable education, licenses, and certifications.
Education: High school diploma with courses completed in Basic English and arithmetic preferred.
Licensure: Possession of an active, valid State of Hawai’i type# 3 driver’s license preferred.
General Experience: One-half (½) year of work experience which demonstrated knowledge of arithmetic and spelling and possession of the abilities to follow oral and written directions, to write simply and directly, and to observe differences in words and numbers quickly and accurately.
Specialized Experience: Two (2) years’ work experience involved in posting accounting records and other systematizing of fiscal information, i.e., computing, classifying, and recording numerical data to keep sets of financial accounting records complete and to derive reports therefrom. Such experience must have demonstrated knowledge of standard accounting classification and terminology pertinent to accounts maintenance operations and office practices and procedures relating to the processing, and recording of transactions, and accounting information. For levels III, IV, and V, this work must have involved reconciling accounts (i.e., checking for errors, balancing, and going back to source document for verification); and the preparation of standard financial statements.
Supervisory Aptitude: Some Account Clerk III, IV, and V positions require that applicants possess supervisory aptitude. Supervisory aptitude is the demonstration of aptitude or potential for the performance of supervisory duties through successful completion of regular or special assignments that involve some supervisory responsibilities or aspects; by serving as a group or team leader, previous work experience in a position that demonstrates or performs supervisory functions or in similar work in which opportunities for demonstrating supervisory capabilities exist; by completion of training courses in supervision accompanied by application of supervisory skills in work assignments; or by favorable appraisals by a supervisor indicating the possession of supervisory potential.
DESIRED SKILLS
Knowledge of: Arithmetic; Business English; spelling; the operation and maintenance of common office appliances and equipment including adding machines and calculators; standard accounting codes, classifications, and terminology pertinent to accounts maintenance operations; office practices and procedures generally and as they relate to the processing and recording of transactions and accounting information.
Ability to: Plan and carry out various accounts clerical functions; maintain an effective work pace under periodic deadlines; read and understand manuals and detailed books of instructions; write routine business letters, summaries, and reports using prescribed format; deal tactfully with others; operate and maintain various common office appliances and equipment which may include bookkeeping and simple electronic data processing equipment; and for some positions, assign, direct and review the work of others.
Additional Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office – Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook; excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills; strong problem-solving and multitasking abilities.
WORKING CONDITIONS / HEALTH & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Applicants must meet the health and physical requirements deemed necessary to effectively and safely perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
Working Conditions: occasional standing/walking; prolonged sitting; may require travel to and from the different facilities within the region.
