JOB LOCATION:  Kaua’i Veterans Memorial Hospital – Waimea, Kaua’i, HI

FUNCTION: This position is located in the Patient Financial Services Department of Kaua’i Veterans Memorial Hospital (KVMH). KVMH, Samuel Mahelona Memorial Hospital (SMMH), and Kaua’i Region Clinics are part of the Kaua’i Region, Hawai’i Health Systems Corporation (HHSC), a public benefit corporation of the State of Hawai’i.

The Patient Finance Services Department manages and coordinates patient billing, follow up, and collection services; and manages all healthcare insurance revenue recovery activities.

The Account Clerk IV ensures the accuracy and timeliness of the processing of: collection/entry/posting/reconcile of Accounts Receivable payments/contractual in all systems, potentially assisting with bank deposits in conjunction with Accounts Payable. Also, provides assistance to the Regional Fiscal Management Officer in coordinating preparation of various reports for management, outside agencies and for financial and cost reports audits. May at times assist in Accounts Payable (AP) as necessary to ensure core work processes are maintained, including other duties as assigned. The position requires completion of large volume of work within a limited period of time. This position will report directly to the Account Clerk V: Reimbursement Specialist, or its designee.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

To qualify, you must meet all of the following requirements.  Please note that unless specifically indicated, the required education and experience are credited based on a 40-hours.

Education: Graduation from high school with courses in basic English and arithmetic preferred.

Certification: None.

Licensure: None.

General Experience: One half (1/2) year of professional work experience which demonstrated knowledge of arithmetic and spelling and possession of the abilities to follow oral and written directions, to write simply and directly, and to observe differences in words and numbers quickly and accurately.

Specialized Experience: Three (3) years of specialized professional experience, involved in posting to accounting records and other systematizing of fiscal information, i.e., computing, classifying and recording numerical data to keep sets of financial accounting records complete and to derive reports there from. Such experience must have demonstrated knowledge of standard accounting classification and terminology pertinent to accounts maintenance operations and office practices and procedures relating to the processing and recording of transactions and accounting information. This work must have involved reconciling accounts (i.e., checking for errors, balancing, and going back to original source document for verification); and the preparation of standard financial statements.

Desired Skills & Abilities: Knowledge of Business English; spelling; arithmetic; the operation and operational maintenance of common office appliances and equipment including office duplicating and copy machines; and office practices and procedures. Ability to carry out a variety of standard office routines, perform assignments requiring uniform mental attention; learn and apply pertinent statutory provisions, rules, regulations, policies and procedures; learn and apply a variety of instructions furnished in writing, oral diagrammatic or schedule form; operate and maintain various common office appliances, which may include duplicating and simple electronic data processing equipment; prepare simple narrative and numerical reports; perform arithmetic operations quickly and accurately ; speak and write simply and directly, and understand and interpret laws, ordinances, rules and regulations; deal effectively and tactfully with the public; and work harmoniously and collaboratively with fellow departmental and hospital staff.

WORKING CONDITIONS & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Applicants must be physically able to perform, efficiently and effectively, the essential duties of the position which typically require the ability to read without strain printed material the size of typewritten characters, glasses permitted, and the ability to hear the conversational voice, with or without a hearing aid, or the ability to compensate satisfactorily.
