SALARY: $4,600/month plus shortage differential (SR22)
JOB LOCATION: Kaua’i Veterans Memorial Hospital – Waimea, Kaua’i, HI
FUNCTION: This position is located in the Finance Department of Kaua’i Veterans Memorial Hospital (KVMH) and Samuel Mahelona Memorial Hospital (SMMH). KVMH, SMMH, and The Kaua’i Region Clinics are part of the Kaua’i Region, Hawai’i Health Systems Corporation (HHSC), a public benefit corporation of the State of Hawai’i operating nine (9) facilities statewide.
The primary responsibility of the Accountant IV is to ensure the accurate and timely processing of the accounting functions for all Kaua’i Region facilities including but not limited to: all aspects of regional general accounting procedures, month and year-end closing, analytical and reporting reviews, cost accounting, cost reporting financial statement preparation, reconciliation and balancing of accounts receivable, collections and payments, inventory, fixed assets, accounts payable, and payroll. This position requires the processing of large volume transactions within a limited period of time and may be required to travel to and from Kaua’i Region facilities on a regular basis as determined in order to perform all aspects of the accounting functions. The Accountant IV will report to the Accountant V: Accounting Supervisor, or its designee.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
To qualify, you must meet all of the following requirements. Please note that unless specifically indicated, the required education and experience are credited based on a 40-hour workweek.
Education: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four (4) year college or university with at least 12 semester credit hours in accounting and/or auditing subjects.
Certification: CPA preferred but not required.
Licensure: None required.
Experience: Two and one half (2 1/2) years of progressively responsible professional accounting or auditing experience which may have included teaching accounting at the university level.

Candidates must possess required knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience and be able to explain and demonstrate, with or without reasonable accommodations, that the essential functions of the job can be performed; solid understanding of accounting concepts, is detail-oriented, and demonstrates strong analytical and critical thinking abilities, as well as, excellent organizational and communication skills.
Knowledge of: Asset accounting with skills in analyzing and interpreting data; preparing complex, consolidated financial reports; theories, principles, practices and techniques of accounting and the ability to apply this knowledge to complex accounting problems; the ability to develop solutions to complex and unprecedented situations; and the ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with others; Microsoft Office and advanced Excel skills (i.e. use/familiarity with pivot tables, vlookups, filters, complex functions, etc.)
WORKING CONDITIONS & PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS
Applicants must be physically able to perform, efficiently and effectively, the essential duties of the position which typically require the ability to read without strain printed material the size of typewritten characters, glasses permitted, and the ability to hear the conversational voice, with or without a hearing aid, or the ability to compensate satisfactorily.
