SALARY: $22.69/hour (SR18)

JOB LOCATION: Kaua’i Veterans Memorial Hospital – Waimea, Kaua’i, HI

FUNCTION: This position is located in the Finance Department of Kaua’i Veterans Memorial Hospital (KVMH) and Samuel Mahelona Memorial Hospital (SMMH). KVMH and SMMH are part of the Kaua’i Region, Hawaii Health Systems Corporation (HHSC), a public benefit corporation of the State of Hawaii operating nine (9) facilities statewide.

The primary responsibility of the Accountant II is to ensure the accurate and timely processing of the Accounting functions at all Kaua’i Region facilities including but not limited to: all aspects of all regional general accounting procedures, month-end closing, and reporting analytical review and cost accounting, accounts receivable, collections and payments, accounts payable, and payroll, and leave records, etc. This position requires completion of a large volume of work within a limited period of time. This position will be required to report to other facilities on a regular basis as determined in order to perform all of HHSC Kaua’i Region’s accounting aspects. The Accountant II will report directly to the Accountant V, or its designee.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

To qualify, you must meet all of the following requirements. Please note that unless specifically indicated, the required education and experience are credited based on a 40-hour workweek.

Education Requirement: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four (4) year college or university with at least 12 semester credit hours in accounting and/or auditing subjects.

Experience Requirement: One-half (1/2) year of progressively responsible professional accounting or auditing experience which may have included teaching accounting at the university level.

Certification: None required.

Licensure: None required.

DESIRED SKILLS & ABILITIES

Computer skills are desirable since most duties are related to use of personal computer and word processing. Use of software including, but not limited to, Excel, Microsoft Word.

A thorough knowledge of the theories, principles, practices and techniques of accounting and the ability to apply this knowledge to complex accounting problems; the ability to develop solutions to complex and unprecedented situations; and the ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with others.

Public fiscal administration, including budgeting and financial reporting, and State appropriation and budget account procedures, and have the ability to supervise clerical and accounting subordinates.

Knowledge of the construction of accounting systems and methods of installing them, and may need to have the ability to learn the principles and practices of supervision.

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Applicants must be physically able to perform, efficiently and effectively, the essential duties of the position which typically require the ability to read without strain printed material the size of typewritten characters, glasses permitted, and the ability to hear the conversational voice, with or without a hearing aid, or the ability to compensate satisfactorily.
