JOB TITLE: BUILDING MAINTENANCE WORKER I
RECRUITMENT NO.: KAUAI -KR368
JOB LOCATION: HHSC Kaua’i Region
SALARY: $4,948/month at 1.0 FTE (BC09 ; BU01)
FUNCTION: These positions are located in the Maintenance departments of HHSC Kaua’i Region. Kaua’i Veterans Memorial Hospital (KVMH), Samuel Mahelona Memorial Hospital (SMMH), and The Kaua’i Region Clinics, which consist of The Clinic at Waimea, The Clinic at Port Allen, The Clinic at Kalaheo, The Clinic/Urgent Care at Po’ipu, and the Clinic at Kapa’a are all part of the Kaua’i Region, Hawai’i Health Systems Corporation, a public benefit corporation of the State of Hawai’i.
The Maintenance department provides technical expertise for the design, planning and construction aspects of building, remodeling, or renovation of the physical plant and equipment to meet the needs of the facility.
The Building Maintenance Worker (BMW) I is responsible for performing a variety of skilled maintenance and repair work in the upkeep of building, residences, and other structures and in the maintenance and repair of equipment and facilities housed in such structures; and performs other related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
To qualify, you must meet all of the following requirements. Please note that unless specifically indicated, the required education and experience are credited based on a 40-hour workweek.
Education: None required.
Licensure: Current, valid State of Hawai’i driver’s license is required.
Certification: None required.
Experience and Training: Four (4) years of work experience in performing a variety of building maintenance repair work or an equivalent combination of experience and training.
DESIRED SKILLS & ABILITIES
Knowledge of: Basic practices and methods in the repair of buildings, including safety procedures; common tools, equipment, and materials used in the carpentry, painting, plumbing and electrical trades; electro-mechanical appliances used in homes and other buildings.
Ability to: Determine need for repairs involving a variety of building trades; recognize hazards typical of the work; use hand tools utilized in a variety of building trades; read blueprints and sketches; estimate time and material needed to perform a job; make mechanical repairs to equipment and appliances; understand and follow oral and written instructions.
WORKING CONDITIONS & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Applicants must be physically able to perform, efficiently and effectively, the essential duties of the position which typically require the ability to read without strain printed material the size of typewritten characters, glasses permitted, and the ability to hear the conversational voice, with or without a hearing aid, or the ability to compensate satisfactorily.
Working Conditions: Exposed to hazards from electrical/mechanical/power equipment.
Physical Demands: Heavy physical effort (lift/carry up to 50 lbs); Extremely heavy physical effort (lift/carry 50 lbs or more); Pushes/pulls or moves/lifts heavy equipment/supplies; Manual dexterity and mobility
