POSITION TITLE: CLINIC RECEPTIONIST I
The Clinic Receptionist I is responsible for receiving patients for outpatient services, scheduling appointments and procedures, interviewing patients, and other related duties required to support the services for the nursing Psychiatric Unit and some clerical assistance to the Social Services Dept. This position must interface with nursing managers and have the ability to use tact and diplomacy in ensuring that Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) standards are maintained. High level of confidentiality required. The Clinic Receptionist I reports to the Registered Professional Nurse V (Nurse Manager), position no. 20782. With regards to clerical social work duties, this position reports to the Social Worker IV, position no. 21796.
Candidates must be able to work all shifts, including weekends and holidays as assigned. Services are provided 24/7.
STATUS: Permanent / Full-time (1.0 FTE)
LOCATION: This position is located in the Acute Psychiatric/Behavioral Health department of Samuel Mahelona Memorial Hospital (SMMH). Kaua’i Veterans Memorial Hospital (KVMH), SMMH, and The Kaua’i Region Clinics, which consist of: The Clinic at Waimea, The Clinic at Port Allen, The Clinic at Kalaheo, The Specialty Clinic at Kalaheo, The Clinic/Urgent Care at Po’ipu, and the Clinic at Kapa’a are all part of the Kaua’i Region, Hawai’i Health Systems Corporation, a public benefit corporation of the State of Hawai’i.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS
To qualify, you must meet all of the following requirements. Please note that unless specifically indicated, the required education and experience are credited based on a 40-hour workweek.
Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
Licensure: None required.
Certification: None required.
General Experience: Two (2) years of work experience which involved performance of a variety of clerical tasks (preferably clinical unit clerk experience) which demonstrated knowledge of English grammar, spelling, arithmetic, common office appliances and equipment; and the ability to read and understand oral and written instructions, carry out procedures in clerical work systems, speak and write simply and directly, compare words and numbers quickly and accurately, operate various kinds of office equipment.
Select Certification: Of the two (2) years work experience requirement, applicants should also possess a minimum of two (2) years clerical work experience in healthcare or clinic setting within the previous two (2) years. Work experience in behavioral health setting preferred.
DESIRED SKILLS & ABILITIES
Knowledge of: Business English; spelling; arithmetic; the operation and operational maintenance of various office appliances and equipment, including office duplicating and copying machines; office practices and procedures. Demonstrates basic computer knowledge and ability to work with a variety of hospital programs and software applications.
Ability to: Plan and carry out a wide range of clerical functions, including various highly complex assignments; maintain an effective work pace under periodic deadlines; learn and apply pertinent statutory provisions, rules, regulations, policies and procedures; read and understand manuals and other detailed books of instruction; write routine business letters, summaries and reports using prescribed format and conforming to all rules of grammar and style; speak simply and directly, including occasionally speaking to groups as well as individuals; deal tactfully with others. Ability to prepare and compile records, reports, schedules and staffing information; cognizant of contract related deadlines. Maintains files of appropriate records for office operations and to meet regulatory agency requirements. Ability to cross-train to provide support to other office operations; remain flexible to changing systems; is expected to demonstrate quality and effectiveness in work habits.
Applicants must be physically able to perform, efficiently and effectively, the essential duties of the position which typically require the ability to read without strain printed material the size of typewritten characters, glasses permitted, and the ability to hear the conversational voice, with or without a hearing aid, or the ability to compensate satisfactorily.
