JOB LOCATION:  Kaua’i Veterans Memorial Hospital – Waimea, Kaua’i, Hawaii

FUNCTION:  This position is located in the Nutritional Services Department of the HHSC Kaua’i Region. The HHSC Kaua’i Region includes Kauai Veterans Memorial Hospital (KVMH),  Samuel Mahelona Memorial Hospital (SMMH), and the Kaua’i Region Clinics, which consists of The Clinic at Waimea, The Clinic at Port Allen, The Clinic at Kalaheo, The Specialty Clinic at Kalaheo, The Clinic/Urgent Care at Po’ipu, and The Clinic at Kalaheo. HHSC Kaua’i Region is part of the Hawai’i Health Systems Corporation (HHSC), a public benefit corporation of the State of Hawai’i.

The Dietary Services unit provides healthful and attractive food to the patients and employees of the hospital. This position may be responsible for consults with attending physicians concerning the dietary needs of the patients. This position also teaches patients with special diet problems and visits patients at the hospital to be sure they are getting adequate nourishment.

The Dietician II assesses patients’ nutritional needs; develops and implements nutritional care plans and therapeutic diets; counsels patients on dietetics; evaluates progress and results and prepares appropriate reports; and performs other related duties as assigned. Position reports to the Dietitian V, position no. 58043, or its designee.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

To qualify, you must meet all of the following requirements.  Please note that unless specifically indicated, the required education and experience are credited based on a 40-hour workweek.

Education Requirement: None Required. 

Experience: None required. Possession of a master’s degree in foods and nutrition, dietetics or institutional food management may be substituted for one (1) year of Specialized Experience.

Licensure: Current, valid drivers license preferred. 

Certification: Applicants may be registration eligible by the Commission on Dietetic Registration of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and must obtain registration within one (1) year from date of hire.

WORKING CONDITIONS & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Applicants must be physically able to perform, efficiently and effectively, the essential duties of the position which typically require the ability to read without strain printed material the size of typewritten characters, glasses permitted, and the ability to hear the conversational voice, with or without a hearing aid, or the ability to compensate satisfactorily. Disabilities in these or other areas will not automatically result in disqualification. Those applicants who demonstrate that they are capable of performing the essential functions of the position will not be disqualified under this section.

Applicants must be physically able to perform, efficiently and effectively, the essential duties of the position. Carry weight up to 50 pounds. Climb ladders to access areas that need to be cleaned; safely work at heights ups to 12 feet and not to exceed 20 feet.

COVID-19 VACCINATION REQUIREMENT

COVID-19 vaccination is a condition of employment for Hawaii Health Systems Corporation.  After receiving a conditional offer of employment, all prospective new HHSC employees are required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19.  New employees are required to provide confirmation of their full vaccination status by presenting their CDC vaccination card or VAMS Certificate prior to their start date.
