POSITION TITLE: DIETICIAN II-V (REGIONAL)

STATUS:  Permanent | Full Time (1.0 FTE)

SALARY: $4,339 – $5,713 per month at 1.0 FTE | SR18-24 | BU13

LOCATION:  This regional position is located in the Dietary / Nutritional Services department at Kaua’i Veterans Memorial Hospital (KVMH) of the Hawai’i Health Systems Corporation (HHSC) Kaua’i Region. KVMH, along with Samuel Mahelona Memorial Hospital (SMMH) and The Kaua’i Region Clinics, which consists of The Clinic at Waimea, The Clinic at Port Allen, The Clinic at Kalāheo, The Specialty Clinic at Kalāheo, Urgent Care at Po’ipū, The Clinic at Līhu’e, and The Clinic at Kapa’a, are all part of a public benefit corporation of the State of Hawai’i.

The Dietary / Nutritional Services unit provides healthful and attractive food to the patients and employees of the hospital. This position may be responsible for consults with attending physicians concerning the dietary needs of the patients. This position also teaches patients with special diet problems and visits patients at the hospital to be sure they are getting adequate nourishment.

JOB FUNCTIONS: The Dietician is primarily responsible for planning, organizing, directing, and administering dietetic food services operations, to meet the needs of all patients and employees of the Kaua’i Region.  This includes consulting with the Hospital Executive Chefs concerning the performance of food services personnel, and the ordering of food, supplies, and equipment for the section. The Dietitian is also involved in providing clinical dietetic services, which includes both clinical and patient counseling/education services; and performs other duties as assigned. This position reports directly to the Regional Chief Executive Officer, position no. 109678, or its designee.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

To qualify, you must meet all of the following requirements. Please note that unless specifically indicated, the required education and experience are credited based on a 40-hour workweek. All applicants are required to provide evidence of all applicable education, licenses, and certifications. 

Education: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four (4) year college or university with a course of study approved by the American Dietetic Association, including the successful completion of a dietetic internship, or other equivalent clinical component approved by the Association.

Licensure: Current, valid driver’s license preferred. 

Certification: 

  • For Dietitian II level: Applicants may be registration eligible by the Commission on Dietetic Registration of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and must obtain registration within one (1) year from date of hire.
  • For Dietitian III level and above: Applicants must be registered by the Commission on Dietetic Registration of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.

Specialized Experience: Professional dietetic or nutrition experience that provided the applicant with a full professional understanding of the theories of dietetic therapy and their application in the maintenance, improvement and/or recovery of good health. For levels III and higher, at least one (1) year of experience must have been comparable to the next lower level in this series. 

Supervisory Experience: Work experience which demonstrated the applicant’s knowledge of and ability to apply the principles, practices, techniques and methods of supervision including: (1) planning, organizing and directing the work of others; (2) assigning and reviewing work; (3) advising others on difficult work problems; (4) timing and scheduling work; and (5) training and developing employees.

*For Dietitian IV positions, applicants must have demonstrated evidence of supervisory aptitude. Supervisory aptitude is the demonstration of aptitude or potential for the performance of supervisory duties through successful completion of regular or special assignments which involve some supervisory responsibilities or aspects; by serving as a group or team leader, previous work experience in a position that demonstrates or performs supervisory functions or in similar work in which opportunities for demonstrating supervisory capabilities exist; by completion of training courses in supervision accompanied by application of supervisory skills in work assignments; or by favorable appraisals by a supervisor indicating the possession of supervisory potential.
