SALARY:   $26.54/hour (SR22 / BU73)

JOB LOCATION:  Kauai Veterans Memorial Hospital – Waimea, Kauai, Hawaii

FUNCTION:  This position is located in the Nutritional Services Department of the Kauai Region, which includes both Kauai Veterans Memorial Hospital (KVMH) and Samuel Mahelona Memorial Hospital (SMMH). Kauai Region is part of Hawaii Health Systems Corporation (HHSC), a public benefit corporation of the State of Hawaii.

The Dietary Services unit provides healthful and attractive food to the patients and employees of the hospital. This position may be responsible for consults with attending physicians concerning the dietary needs of the patients. This position also teaches patients with special diet problems and visits patients at the hospital to be sure they are getting adequate nourishment.

The Dietician IV plans the dietary menu, instruct patients/residents and their families regarding dietary therapy during and subsequent to hospitalization and provide outpatient diet education & medical nutrition therapy as needed; and performs other related duties as assigned. Position reports to the Dietitian V, position no. 58043, or its designee.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

To qualify, you must meet all of the following requirements.  Please note that unless specifically indicated, the required education and experience are credited based on a 40-hour workweek.

Education Requirement: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four (4) year college or university with a course of study approved by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, including the successful completion of a dietetic internship, or other equivalent clinical component approved by the Academy.

Experience:

Specialized Experience: Two (2) years of professional dietetic or nutrition experience that provided the applicant with a full professional understanding of the theories of dietetic therapy and their application in the maintenance, improvement and/or recovery of good health.

Supervisory Experience: Demonstration of aptitude or potential for the performance of supervisory duties through successful completion of regular or special assignments which involve some supervisory responsibilities or aspects; by serving as a group or team leader, previous work experience in a position that demonstrates or performs supervisory functions or in similar work in which opportunities for demonstrating supervisory capabilities exist; by completion of training courses in supervision accompanied by application of supervisory skills in work assignments; or by favorable appraisals by a supervisor indicating the possession of supervisory potential.

*Substitution of Education for Experience: Possession of a master’s degree in foods and nutrition, dietetics or institutional food management may be substituted for one (1) year of Specialized Experience.

Certification: Applicants must be registered by the Commission on Dietetic Registration of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.

WORKING CONDITIONS & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Applicants must be physically able to perform, efficiently and effectively, the essential duties of the position. Carry weight up to 50 pounds. Climb ladders to access areas that need to be cleaned; safely work at heights ups to 12 feet and not to exceed 20 feet.
