JOB LOCATION:  Kaua’i Veterans Memorial Hospital – Waimea, Kaua’i, HI

FUNCTION: This position is located in the Nursing Administration section of Kauai Veterans Memorial Hospital (KVMH). KVMH, Samuel Mahelona Memorial Hospital (SMMH), and Kauai Region Clinics, are part of the Kauai Region, Hawaii Health Systems Corporation, a public benefit corporation of the State of Hawaii.

The Director of Nursing – Long Term Care (LTC) is responsible for ensuring that the care and services provided meet the satisfaction of the residents, their families, medical staff, and regulatory agencies. Oversees activities and coordinates the operations of the LTC Unit.  This includes providing oversight and monitoring a wide range of operations in the LTC Unit such as food service, physical, occupational, and recreational therapy, environmental conditions, medical equipment, and financial matters.

Functions include administering policies and procedures; program planning and development; operation and capital budget preparation; public relations; and ensuring federal, state and accreditation standards are met.

This position reports to the Regional Chief Nurse Executive (RCNE).


To qualify, you must meet all of the following requirements. Please note that unless specifically indicated, the required education and experience are credited based on a 40-hour workweek.

Education: Graduation with a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university required.

Licensure: Possession of a current license to practice as a Professional Registered Nurse in the State of Hawaii required. Possession of Nursing Home Administration license preferred.

Experience: Five (5) to ten (10) years’ experience in a hospital or long term care environment with strong background in resident care, strategic planning, finance, and community relations. Successful track record partnering with physicians and other clinical staff. Familiar with CMS, State, or Federal Regulations governing Long Term Care.

Certification: Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association must be presented at the time of appointment of hire.

Subject to long and irregular hours; many interruptions; commuting to various work sites in Kaua’i.
