JOB LOCATION: Samuel Mahelona Memorial Hospital – Kapa’a, Kaua’i, HI

FUNCTION: This position is a regional position and is located in the Data Processing department of Samuel Mahelona Memorial Hospital (SMMH). Kauai Veterans Memorial Hospital (KVMH), SMMH, and The Kaua’i Region Clinics, which consist of The Clinic at Waimea, The Clinic at Port Allen, The Clinic at Kalaheo, The Clinic/Urgent Care at Po’ipu, and the Clinic at Kapa’a are all part of the Kaua’i Region, Hawai’i Health Systems Corporation, a public benefit corporation of the State of Hawai’i.

The Information Technology Department is responsible for the overall evaluation, planning, analysis, development, improvement and support of the Kauai Region’s information technology systems and tools.

The Info Technology (IT) Specialist III is responsible for, but not limited to: serving as a desktop support analyst who provides support to all technology users of the Kaua’i Region; implementing, maintaining, and supporting Kaua’i users, systems networks and telecommunications; works in coordination with Kauai Region analysts, HHSC helpdesk and analysts, and at times analysts from other HHSC regions; works with senior staff in testing network, desktop and/or systems applications; and any other duties as assigned. All duties and responsibilities of this position will be mutually allocated between each Kaua’i Region facility, based upon their respective needs and criteria. This position requires travel to all facilities within the Kaua’i Region and may be subject to long and irregular hours, with evening, night, and weekend coverage as required. The IT Specialist III also provides leave coverage for other members of the data processing team within the region and reports directly to the IT Specialist VI, or its designee.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

To qualify, you must meet all of the following requirements.  Please note that unless specifically indicated, the required education and experience are credited based on a 40-hour workweek.

Education: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four (4) year college or university.

Licensure: Current, valid State of Hawai’i driver’s license is required.

Certification: None required.

Experience: One and one half (1 ½) years of progressively responsible work experience in information technology which involved the systems analysis, design, programming, security and access management, database design and management, consulting, and/or installing and maintaining computer software applications, hardware, telecommunications, and web or network infrastructure equipment. The work must have demonstrated knowledge and understanding of information technology principles, methods, techniques and practices; computer hardware, software and peripheral equipment; and personal computer, server, mini and/or mainframe operating systems. Experience in a health care systems and setting preferred.

Preferred Experience: One (1) year specialized experience in supporting hospital information systems which involves assessing/evaluating problems and requests and solving problems or escalating to senior analysts for assistance.

DESIRED SKILLS & ABILITIES

Knowledge of: LAN and WAN environment where coordination with corporate office and other regional offices is required; mini and/or mainframe systems and operations; high level of competency with the installation and use of MS Office applications and working knowledge of PC business applications and database programs; general MS Office Professional Application software – Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Outlook, SharePoint; general support applications – MS Project, VISIO; Computer Networks OSI Layer 1-3; a high level of competency in PCs including hardware and software configuration and installation; telecommunications technologies such as video teleconferencing, web conferencing, handheld devices, and wireless environments; business writing for creation of policies, procedures, training materials, operations manuals, technical documentation, newsletters, and other IT associated documents.

Ability to: Troubleshoot and resolve user identified application problems; development processes – analysis, design, code, test and install; software upgrades – load, modifications, test and cutover; train computer users of all levels of expertise; solve problems in time critical situations, particularly where relations must be maintained with potentially difficult systems users; take action with limited guidance in agreed to areas of responsibility in a calm and rational manner, particularly where the service delivery requirements must be maintained in a time sensitive situation; maintain a strong image of professional discipline.

WORKING CONDITIONS & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Applicants must be physically able to perform, efficiently and effectively, the essential duties of the position which typically require the ability to read without strain printed material the size of typewritten characters, glasses permitted, and the ability to hear the conversational voice, with or without a hearing aid, or the ability to compensate satisfactorily.

Working Conditions: The position will work in an office environment with prolonged sitting and extended periods of working with a personal computer and in meetings with various users and vendors of the automated systems. May be subject to long and irregular hours. This position provides leave coverage for other members of the IT team in the region. This position provides evening and night coverage as required.

Physical Demands: The position will pack/unpack and install/move computer equipment including but not limited to monitors, processor boxes, printers, uninterruptible power supplies, scanners, etc. Installation and troubleshooting of systems includes reaching, bending, squatting, carrying, and accessing difficult spaces such as under desks, in closets/ceilings, and in/behind cabinets and other storage facilities.

Vision Requirements: Ability to read without strain printed material the size of typewritten characters, glasses permitted, and the ability to hear the conversational voice, with or without a hearing aid.

COVID-19 VACCINATION REQUIREMENT
