JOB LOCATION:  Kaua’i Veterans Memorial Hospital – Waimea, Kaua’i, HI

FUNCTION: This position is located in the Information System Department of the Hawai’i Health Systems Corporation (HHSC) Kaua’i Region. The Kaua’i Region consists of Kaua’i Veterans Memorial Hospital (KVMH), Samuel Mahelona Memorial Hospital (SMMH), and Kau’ai Region Clinics as part HHSC, a public benefit corporation of the State of Hawaii operating nine (9) facilities statewide.

The Information Systems Department is responsible for the overall planning, analysis, development, improvement and evaluation of the Kaua’i Region’s information technology systems. This department also provides direct support of proper systems usage, analytical review of system effectiveness, and coordination of process improvement and continuous system upgrades in their use of Health System technology including the electronic medical records (EMR); maintains consistent and reliable communication for enhancements, fixes and any new developments related to the EMR system; and serves as liaison with Information System team, vendors and other HHSC facilities.

The Registered Professional Nurse IV (IT Clinical Informaticist) coordinates, facilitates, and assists with development, on-going maintenance, evaluation, and optimization of region wide electronic medical records system. Responsibilities include direct support to Kaua’i Region clinicians (physicians, nurses, pharmacists, ancillary and other interdisciplinary team members) in their use of our EMR system; competency validation; evaluating and optimizing internal work flows; and serving as a liaison between our EMR system and EMR vendor to communicate necessary technical enhancements and troubleshooting issues. The IT Clinical Analyst is responsible to engage, facilitate, and encourage collaboration among facilities/SMEs and end users to accomplish these outcomes. The position may be required to work shifts, weekends, holidays, and irregular hours. In addition, this position requires travel to and from each facility, clinic, and may also require off island travel for training or education on the EMR.

This position reports to the Information Systems Specialist VI, or its designee.


To qualify, you must meet all of the following requirements. Please note that unless specifically indicated, the required education and experience may not be gained concurrently. In addition, qualifying work experiences are credited based on a 40-hour workweek.

Education:  Graduation from an accredited school of nursing. While not required, graduation from a nursing program with a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university is highly desirable.

Licensure:   License to practice as professional nurse in the State of Hawaii. Applicants must submit evidence of current Hawaii RN licensure (a copy of valid license) at the time of appointment.


One and one-half (1 ½) years of professional nursing work experience.

Supervisory aptitude is the demonstration of aptitude or potential for the performance of supervisory duties through successful completion of regular or special assignments which involve some supervisory responsibilities or aspects; by serving as a group or team leader; or in similar work in which opportunities for demonstrating supervisory or administrative capabilities exist; by completion of training courses in supervision accompanied by application of supervisory skills in work assignments; or by favorable appraisals by a supervisor indicating the possession of supervisory potential.

Selective Certification Requirements:  Of the one and one-half (1 ½ ) years of professional nursing work experience, must have one and one-half (1 ½) years of Subject Matter Expert (SME) and/or process improvement workflow analysis experience with clinical/technical EMR knowledge experience in a clinic setting.

Certification: Provide current Basic Life Support (BLS) must be presented upon first day of employment.
