LOCATION: These positions are regional and are located in the Recreational Therapy department of the Hawai’i Health Systems Corporation (HHSC) Kaua’i Region, a public benefit corporation of the State of Hawai’i. HHSC Kaua’i Region consists of Kaua’i Veterans Memorial Hospital (KVMH) and Samuel Mahelona Memorial Hospital (SMMH), both critical access hospitals; The Kaua’i Region Clinics; and its affiliates. 
 
The Recreational Therapy department is part of Kaua’i Region’s multi-disciplinary team and provides an appropriate therapeutic recreation program to maintain the physical and mental health of patients and to assist patients with achieving their physical and mental rehabilitation goals.

As the full performing Recreational Aide, you will be primarily responsible to provide supportive, therapeutic, and recreational activities to patients/residents of HHSC Kaua’i Region.  The position may be required to work on shifts, including evenings, and weekends and holidays and may require travel on a regular basis to other facilities within the Kaua’i region facilities as assigned. The position directly reports to the Administrative Services Officer (Regional Outreach Manager), position number 60271, or its designee.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

To qualify, you must meet all of the following requirements. Please note that unless specifically indicated, the required education and experience may not be gained concurrently. In addition, qualifying work experiences are credited based on a 40-hour workweek. All applicants are required to provide evidence of all applicable education, licenses, and certifications. 

Licensure: Current, valid State of Hawai’i Type 3 Driver’s License.

Certification: Current, valid Basic Life Support (BLS) certification for Healthcare Workers issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) at the time of appointment.

Experience and Essential Knowledge and Abilities:  One (1) year of progressively responsible work experience in a recreational care program/setting which involved receiving on-the-job training in performing a variety of basic recreational therapy practices and techniques.  Such experience must have demonstrated basic knowledge of recreational treatment plans and leisure-time activities; normal human growth and development; and the ability to adhere to orders and independently carry out simple recreational activities and therapeutic treatment plans; communicate and deal effectively with patients/residents and their families; and work effectively with others.

Desirable Qualifications: Possess or be able to obtain a Public Utilities Carrier license.

*NOTE: The compensation for paid holidays, vacation time and sick leave is based on a full-time equivalent (FTE) status for 8-hour workdays. If an employee’s FTE status is less than 1.0, the accrual of these benefits will be adjusted accordingly.
