SALARY: $5,251/month (WS09 ; BU01)

JOB LOCATION: Kaua’i Veterans Memorial Hospital – Waimea, Kaua’i, HI

FUNCTION:  This position is located in the Maintenance Department of Kaua’i Veterans Memorial Hospital (KVMH). KVMH is part of the Kaua’i Region, Hawai’i Health Systems Corporation, a public benefit corporation of the State of Hawai’i, operating nine (9) facilities statewide.

The Building Maintenance Worker II primary responsibilities include the supervision and participation of a variety of journeyman-level construction, maintenance and repair work in the upkeep of buildings and other structures, equipment, and grounds. This position performs in a lead capacity (overseeing work, teaching work methods, and quality of workmanship, etc.,) when working with other Building Maintenance Worker I employees on construction, maintenance and repair projects; including work requiring the use of plumbing, painting, welding, and mechanical skills. The Building Maintenance Worker II also supervises and oversees the work of the General Laborers, teaching work methods, quality of workmanship, and any other duties as assigned. This position reports directly to the Regional Director of Facilities, or its designee. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

To qualify, you must meet all of the following requirements.  Please note that unless specifically indicated, the required education and experience are credited based on a 40-hours.

Experience and Training:  Six (6) years of work experience in performing a variety of building maintenance repair work of which two (2) years shall have been as a fully competent worker, or an equivalent combination of experience and training.

License Required: Applicants must possess a valid license to drive in the State of Hawai’i.

DESIRED SKILLS & ABILITIES

Knowledge of: Basic practices and methods in the repair of buildings, including safety procedures; common tools, equipment and materials used in the carpentry, plumbing, painting and electrical trades; electro-mechanical appliances used in homes and other buildings.

Ability to: Plan, lay out, assign and review the work of other skilled building maintenance workers; determine the need for building repairs; use hand tools utilized in a variety of building trades; read blueprints and sketches; estimate time and materials needed to perform maintenance and repair jobs, and keep records and make reports; make mechanical repairs to electrical and plumbing equipment, appliances and facilities housed in buildings; understand and follow oral and written instructions.

WORKING CONDITIONS & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Physical and Medical Requirements: Applicants must be physically able to perform, efficiently and effectively, the essential duties of the position which typically require the ability to read without strain printed material the size of typewritten characters, glasses permitted, and the ability to hear the conversational voice, with or without a hearing aid, or the ability to compensate satisfactorily. Disabilities in these or other areas will not automatically result in disqualification. Those applicants who demonstrate that they are capable of performing the essential functions of the positions will not be disqualified under this section.
