JOB LOCATION:  Kaua’i Veterans Memorial Hospital – Waimea, Kaua’i, HI

FUNCTION AND LOCATION: This position is located at Kaua’i Veterans Memorial Hospital of Kaua’i Region Healthcare Enterprises. The Kaua’i Region Healthcare Enterprises is a 501c3 tax exempt organization of which the HHSC –Kaua’i Region is its sole member. The HHSC Kaua’i Region consists of Kaua’i Veterans Memorial Hospital (KVMH), Samuel Mahelona Memorial Hospital (SMMH), and Kaua’i Region Clinics, which include: The Clinic at Waimea, The Clinic at Port Allen, The Clinic at Kalaheo, The Specialty Clinic at Kalaheo, The Clinic/Urgent Care Clinic at Po’ipu, and The Clinic at Kapa’a, are all part of the Hawai’i Health Systems Corporation (HHSC), a public benefit corporation of the State of Hawai’i.

The Director of Security Services is responsible for creating and leading Kaua’i Region’s security strategies and programs and oversees the Security Officers for the region. This position is responsible for reducing security risks and quickly responds to security issues that affect the region’s physical and intellectual security and its personnel. Its main goal is to limit the company’s exposure to liability risks and to properly protect intellectual property, physical assets, patients/residents, and employees; as well as any other duties as assigned. This position may be required to work shifts, weekends, holidays and travel between the Kaua’i Region facilities on a regular basis. The Director of Security Services reports to the Regional CEO or its designee.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

To qualify, you must meet all of the following requirements. Please note that unless specifically indicated, the required education and experience are credited based on a 40-hour workweek.

Education: Bachelor’s degree preferred. 

Licensure: Licensed to work in the State of Hawai’i as a Security Officer; Must possess a current, valid Hawai’i driver’s license with a clean driving record.

Experience: Must possess a minimum of ten (10) years of security officer supervisory experience within the last 5 years; Must possess critical thinking; situational awareness; good judgment and decision making; physical strength and stamina; Up to three (3) months on-the-job training to learn location of safety and plant equipment. 

Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) certification in Health Care Provider (adult, child and infant) AND Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) certification within three (3) months of employment.

KNOWLEDGE,  SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Knowledge of: security functions in healthcare facility preferred. 

Ability to: speak read and write English and follow written and oral instructions; work independently; lift one hundred (100) pounds maximum with assistance, with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 50 pounds; stand for up to 8 hours a day, walks and climb stairs, and ladders while on duty; 

PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS

Applicants must be physically able to perform, efficiently and effectively, the essential duties of the position which typically require the ability to read without strain printed material the size of typewritten characters, glasses permitted, and the ability to hear the conversational voice, with or without a hearing aid, or the ability to compensate satisfactorily. 

Vision Requirements: Field of vision needed to detect unauthorized persons, malfunctioning equipment, or fire, works inside and out.

Mental/Emotional Requirements: All applicants must possess emotional and mental stability appropriate to the job duties and responsibilities and working conditions.

COVID-19 VACCINATION REQUIREMENT

COVID-19 vaccination is a condition of employment for Hawai’i Health Systems Corporation.  After receiving a conditional offer of employment, all prospective new HHSC employees are required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19.  New employees are required to provide confirmation of their full vaccination status by presenting their CDC vaccination card or VAMS Certificate prior to their start date.
