POSITION TITLE: GENERAL LABORER II (REGIONAL)

STATUS:  Permanent | Full-time (1.0 FTE)

SALARY: $4,133 per month at 1.0 FTE | BC03 | BU01

LOCATION: This is a regional position and is located in the Maintenance department of the Kaua’i Region, Hawai’i Health Systems Corporation (HHSC), a public benefit corporation of the State of Hawai’i, which includes Kaua’i Veterans Memorial Hospital (KVMH), Samuel Mahelona Memorial Hospital (SMMH), and The Kaua’i Region Clinics.

The Maintenance department provides technical expertise for the design, planning, and construction aspects of building, remodeling, or renovating the physical plant and equipment to meet the needs of the facility; maintains the buildings and equipment of the facility; repairs or replaces parts of equipment; maintains electrical service; ensures other utilities of the facility are functioning properly; maintains grounds and landscaping; operates and maintains boilers; conducts fire inspection; and maintains the facility in a clean, sanitary and attractive condition.

JOB FUNCTIONS: The General Laborer II (Regional) participates in a variety of manual and semi-skilled work tasks in connection with the cleaning, care, landscaping, and maintenance of the hospital grounds. Also included is the maintenance and repair of campus roads, buildings, and equipment for the facility. This position reports to the Building Maintenance Worker II, position no. 58273, or its designee.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS

To qualify, you must meet all of the following requirements.  Please note that unless specifically indicated, the required education and experience are credited based on a 40-hour workweek. All applicants are required to provide evidence of all applicable education, licenses, and certifications. 

Education: None required. 

Licensure: Current, valid driver’s license type# 3 preferred.

Certifications: None required.

Experience: One (1) year of manual, unskilled and semi-skilled work experience, or an equivalent combination of experience and training.

Knowledge of: Common hand tools and equipment used in manual, unskilled and semi-skilled work; common methods, procedures and materials used in general construction and maintenance work, including safety practices. The care and cultivation of shrubs, flowers, trees, and lawns; use, care and operation of grounds maintenance equipment such as power mowers, edgers, sweepers, and trimmers.

Ability to: Use common hand tools and equipment typical of the class; understand and carry out oral and written instructions; operate and use grounds maintenance equipment and hand tools; perform heavy lifting, moving, digging, carrying, and other manual labor typical of this class of work.
