The Information Technology Specialist IV- EHR Specialist coordinates, facilitates, and assists with development, on-going maintenance, evaluation, and optimization of region wide electronic health records system. Responsibilities include direct support to Kauai Region clinicians (physicians, nurses, pharmacists, ancillary and other interdisciplinary team members) in their use of our EHR system; competency validation; evaluating and optimizing internal workflows; and serving as a liaison between our EHR system and EHR vendor to communicate necessary technical enhancements and troubleshooting issues.  Responsible to engage, facilitate, and encourage collaboration among facilities/SMEs and end users to accomplish these outcomes.  The position may be required to work shifts, weekends, holidays, irregular hours, and long hours.  It requires travel to each facility, clinic, and may require off island travel for training or education on the EHR.

This position reports administratively to the Information Systems Manager.

STATUS:  Permanent / Full-time (1.0 FTE)

LOCATION: This position is a regional position and is located in the Data Processing department of Samuel Mahelona Memorial Hospital (SMMH), Kauai Veterans Memorial Hospital (KVMH), SMMH, and The Kaua’i Region Clinics, which consist of The Clinic at Waimea, The Clinic at Port Allen, The Clinic at Kalaheo, The Clinic/Urgent Care at Po’ipu, and the Clinic at Kapa’a are all part of the Kaua’i Region, Hawai’i Health Systems Corporation, a public benefit corporation of the State of Hawai’i.

The Information Technology Department is responsible for the overall evaluation, planning, analysis, development, improvement and support of the Kauai Region’s information technology systems and tools.

SALARY: $4,692.00 per month at 1.0 FTE | SR22 | BU13

To qualify, you must meet all of the following requirements.  Please note that unless specifically indicated, the required education and experience are credited based on a 40-hour workweek.

Education:  Graduation with a bachelor’s degree from an accredited (4) year college or university.  Major course work in Information Systems, Computer Science, or a closely related field.

Specialized Experience: Two and half (2 ½) years of specialized work experience in information technology which involved the systems analysis, design, programming, security and access management, database design and management, consulting, and/or installing and maintaining computer software applications, hardware, telecommunications, and web or network infrastructure equipment in a healthcare setting.  The work must have demonstrated knowledge and understanding of information technology principles, methods, techniques and practices; computer hardware, software and peripheral equipment; and personal computer, server, mini and/or mainframe operating systems. Work experience with Cerner Community Works Electronic Health Records system as a subject matter expert (SME) preferred.

Certification: None required.

Employee must be physically able to perform, efficiently and effectively, the essential duties of the position which typically require the ability to read without strain printed material the size of typewritten characters, glasses permitted, and the ability to hear the conversational voice, with or without a hearing aid, or the ability to compensate satisfactorily; may be exposed to infections and contagious diseases.  Able to work in stressful environment; dealing with multiple tasks and various people; subject to long hours and irregular schedules.  May be required to work shifts, weekends, and holidays.
