POSITION TITLE: KITCHEN HELPER

STATUS: Varies. 

SALARY: $4,019 per month at 1.0 FTE | BC02 | BU01

LOCATIONS:  These positions are located in the Dietary / Nutritional Services department of HHSC Kaua’i Region. Kaua’i Veterans Memorial Hospital (KVMH), Samuel Mahelona Memorial Hospital (SMMH), and The Kaua’i Region Clinics, which include: The Clinic at Waimea, The Clinic at Port Allen, The Clinic at Kalāheo, The Specialty Clinic at Kalāheo, The Clinic/Urgent Care at Po’ipū, and The Clinic at Kapa’a, are part of the Kaua’i Region, Hawai’i Health Systems Corporation, a public benefit corporation of the State of Hawai’i.

The Dietary / Nutritional Services department provides the best possible nourishing and attractive food as economically as possible to the patients, employees, and visitors of the hospital. Administers food service efficiently and provides scientifically planned diets for patients in promoting the objectives of dietetics.

JOB FUNCTIONS: The Kitchen Helper performs routine manual work in a kitchen for the preparation and serving of meals; cleans kitchen and dining room areas; washes and cleans kitchen utensils and equipment; and other duties as assigned. The Kitchen Helper reports directly to the Regional Institution Food Services Manager IV or its designee.

Candidates must be available to work rotating shifts, weekends, and holidays based on hospital/clinic operation needs. Services are provided 24/7.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS 

To qualify, you must meet all of the following requirements.  Please note that unless specifically indicated, the required education and experience are credited based on a 40-hour workweek.

Experience and Training: None required. Experience in general kitchen work where food is prepared; or any equivalent combination of experience and training preferred.

Knowledge of: Preparation of raw and processed food to be cooked; methods, materials, and equipment used in cleaning kitchen equipment, appliances, and utensils; kitchen safety and sanitation requirements; personal hygiene.

Ability to: Learn quantity cookery; operate kitchen equipment and appliances; measure food servings and serve food; give and receive oral and written instructions; work cooperatively with others; oversee the work of patients or inmates; tolerate kitchen heat and noises; perform heavy lifting, moving and carrying typical of the class.

Licensure: Current, valid motor vehicle operator’s license preferred.
