LOCATIONS: These positions are located in the Dietary/Nutritional Services department of the Hawai’i Health Systems Corporation (HHSC) Kaua’i Region, a public benefit corporation of the State of Hawai’i. HHSC Kaua’i Region consists of Kaua’i Veterans Memorial Hospital (KVMH) and Samuel Mahelona Memorial Hospital (SMMH), both critical access hospitals; The Kaua’i Region Clinics; and its affiliates.
The Dietary/Nutritional Services department is dedicated to providing nourishing and visually appealing meals to patients, employees, and visitors of the hospital in a cost-effective manner. It efficiently manages food services and delivers scientifically planned diets for patients, supporting the objectives of dietetics.
JOB FUNCTIONS: We are actively seeking for Kitchen Helpers who are passionate about the culinary industry, has a positive attitude, and is willing to work as part of a team. As a Kitchen Helper, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the smooth operation of our kitchen facilities. Your responsibilities may include the preparation and serving of meals to patients and their families, hospital staff and members of the community; handling and washing dishes; cleaning and sanitizing kitchen equipment; and maintaining a clean and organized workspace; and any other duties as assigned. The Kitchen Helpers report directly to the Hospital Executive Chef (position no. 109744 or 109745) or an appointed designee, depending on the specific position location.
Candidates must be available to work rotating shifts, weekends, and holidays based on hospital/clinic operation needs. Services are provided 24/7.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
To qualify, you must meet all of the following requirements. Please note that unless specifically indicated, the required education and experience are credited based on a 40-hour workweek. All applicants are required to provide evidence of all applicable education, licenses, and certifications.
Experience and Training: None required. Experience in general kitchen work where food is prepared; or any equivalent combination of experience and training preferred.
Knowledge of: Preparation of raw and processed food to be cooked; methods, materials, and equipment used in cleaning kitchen equipment, appliances, and utensils; kitchen safety and sanitation requirements; personal hygiene.
Ability to: Learn quantity cookery; operate kitchen equipment and appliances; measure food servings and serve food; give and receive oral and written instructions; work cooperatively with others; oversee the work of patients or inmates; tolerate kitchen heat and noises; perform heavy lifting, moving and carrying typical of the class.
Licensure: Current, valid State of Hawai’i type# 3 motor vehicle operator’s license preferred.
