POSITION TITLE: MEDICAL TECHNOLOGIST IV
STATUS: Permanent / Full-Time (1.0 FTE)
SALARY: $4,692 per month | SR22 | BU13
LOCATION: This position is located in the Clinical Laboratory Services department at Waimea, Kaua’i, Hawai’i at Kaua’i Veterans Memorial Hospital (KVMH) of the Hawai’i Health Systems Corporation (HHSC) Kaua’i Region. KVMH, along with Samuel Mahelona Memorial Hospital (SMMH) and The Kaua’i Region Clinics, which consists of The Clinic at Waimea, The Clinic at Port Allen, The Clinic at Kalāheo, The Specialty Clinic at Kalāheo, The Clinic/Urgent Care at Po’ipū, and The Clinic at Kapa’a, are all part of a public benefit corporation of the State of Hawai’i.
The Clinical Laboratory Services department unit performs laboratory tests necessary for the diagnosis and treatment of hospital patients and engages in research essential to medical advancement.
JOB FUNCTIONS: The Medical Technologist IV is primarily responsible to plan and administer all laboratory tests prescribed or referred, to and make testing summaries available for analysis by the physician. This position is subject to shift work, including extended hours, work on weekends, holidays, and stand-by assignments.
The Medical Technologist IV reports to the Regional Chief Executive Officer (RCEO), position no. 109678, or its designee.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
To qualify, you must meet all of the following requirements. Please note that unless specifically indicated, the required education and experience are credited based on a 40-hour workweek. All applicants are required to provide evidence of all applicable education, licenses, and certifications.
Education: None required.
Licensure: Current, valid Clinical Laboratory Technologist license issued by the Department of Health, State of Hawai’i at the time of appointment.
Certification: None required.
Specialized Experience: Two (2) years of professional medical technologist experience which involved a variety of laboratory procedures and tests on samples of body fluids, tissues, and other materials, the purpose of which is to assist others in the detection, diagnosis, and treatment of diseases. Applicants must also show evidence of their ability to supervise others.
KNOWLEDGE & ABILITIES REQUIRED
Knowledge of: Basic principles and practices of medical technology; fundamental principles of chemistry and the biological sciences; the principles and practices of medical technology pertinent to the assigned field or fields.
Ability to: Use and care for laboratory equipment and apparatus; perform laboratory tests accurately and attend to required details for extended periods of time; keep records and prepare reports; make mathematic calculations; give and receive oral and written instructions; deal effectively with patients and hospital staff; plan, organize and schedule work activities to provide the services required of a section of a large laboratory; maintain a continual awareness of current developments in medical technology and provide leadership in maintaining adequate services.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Applicants must be physically able to perform, efficiently and effectively, the essential duties of the position which typically require the ability to read without strain printed material the size of typewritten characters, glasses permitted, and the ability to hear the conversational voice, with or without a hearing aid, or the ability to compensate satisfactorily. Disabilities in these or other areas will not automatically result in disqualification. The ability to distinguish shades of colors is essential.
