POSITION TITLE: PATIENT ACCESS REPRESENTATIVE I (REGIONAL)

STATUS:  Permanent | Full-Time (1.0 FTE)

SALARY:  $3,318 per month | SR11 | BU03

LOCATION: This a regional position located in the Patient Access – Hospital department of the Hawai’i Health Systems Corporation (HHSC) Kaua’i Region, which consists of Kaua’i Veterans Memorial Hospital (KVMH), Samuel Mahelona Memorial Hospital (SMMH) and The Kaua’i Region Clinics, including The Clinic at Waimea, The Clinic at Port Allen, The Clinic at Kalāheo, The Specialty Clinic at Kalāheo, The Specialty Clinic at Kalāheo, The Clinic at Līhu’e, and The Clinic at Kapa’a, all of which are part of a public benefit corporation of the State of Hawai’i.

The Patient Access – Hospital department gathers and processes demographic and financial information to complete patient registration; collects data and inputs information into the hospital’s computer system; provides cashier services, financial counseling, and switchboard services.

JOB FUNCTIONS: The Patient Access Representative I (Regional) (Admission/Registration/ED) is responsible for serving in a trainee capacity, receiving formal and on-the-job training in receiving incoming patients for hospitalization; interviews patients or accompanying parties to obtain data required for admission; types and maintains files of admittance and related records; assigns patients to rooms; receives co-payments; assists with PA switchboard operator duties and performs other related duties as assigned. This position will be subject to work rotating shifts, including work on weekends, holidays, evenings and may be required to float to and from the different facilities within the region to meet the needs of the patients.

This position reports to the Regional Registration and Payer Reimbursement Manager, position no. 109803, or its designee.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS 

To qualify, you must meet all of the following requirements. Please note that unless specifically indicated, the required education and experience may not be gained concurrently. In addition, qualifying work experiences are credited based on a 40-hour workweek. All applicants are required to provide evidence of all applicable education, licenses, and certifications. 

Education:High school diploma or equivalent.

Licensures:  Possession of a current, valid State of Hawai’i driver’s license, Type 3.

Certifications: None required. 

General Experience: Two (2) years of typing, stenographic, clerical work, cashiering, data input, customer service skills or any combination of these experiences which duties demonstrated knowledge of English grammar, spelling, arithmetic, standard office equipment; and the ability to read and understand oral and written instructions, carry out procedures in clerical work systems, speak and write simply and directly, observe differences in copy and proofread words and numbers quickly and accurately, and operate various kinds of office equipment; and ability to deal effectively with others in eliciting information and providing service.

Substitution of Education for General Experience: An Associate’s or Bachelor’s from an accredited college or university may substitute for all of the General Experience required.

Specialized Experience: None required.

Knowledge of: Office practices and procedures; grammar, spelling, punctuation and work usage; use of standard office machines; techniques of interviewing others to obtain pertinent information.

Ability to: Make arithmetic computations; compare names and numbers rapidly and accurately; type at the rate of 40 words per minute and be computer knowledgeable in a windows based environment; operate a telephone switchboard, teleprocessing terminal, and inter-communication system; file materials numerically and alphabetically; follow oral and written instructions; accept and follow instructions; cooperative, communicate positively and effectively with staff, patient and patient family; work harmoniously with others; understand, explain and apply policies, procedures, rules and regulations pertinent to the admission of patients to an acute, skilled nursing or outpatient hospital or outpatient procedure; keep matters confidential; interview others to obtain pertinent admissions information; ability to speak and write English.

Working Conditions

  • This unit operates 24-hours a day, seven (7) days per week and this position will be required to work rotating shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays in multiple locations within the region.
