FUNCTION AND LOCATION: This position is located in the Physical Therapy department and services the hospital and all outpatient clinics for Kaua’i Veterans Memorial Hospital (KVMH) and Samuel Mahelona Memorial Hospital (SMMH), KVMH, SMMH and the Kaua’i Region Clinics, which includes Clinic at Po’ipu, Clinic at Kalaheo, Specialty Clinic at Kalaheo, Clinic at Port Allen, Clinic at Waimea, and the Specialty Clinic at Kapa’a are part of the Kaua’i Region, Hawaii Health Systems Corporation, is a public benefit corporation of the State of Hawai’i.

The Physical Therapy unit provides treatment by massage, therapeutic exercise, hydrotherapy, electrotherapy or other methods as prescribed by the physician to inpatients, and outpatients.

The Physical Therapist prepares treatment plans and administers all physical therapy procedures for the full range of cases falling within the scope of a program for the treatment or prevention of physical disability or disease; performs evaluations and prepares testing summaries as referred by a licensed physician and to restore these patients to the highest level of function possible during the hospital or outpatient treatment; and performs other related duties as assigned. This position is regional and requires travel on a regular basis to other facilities within the region. In addition, the Speech Pathologist reports directly to the Physical Therapist IV, position no. 29281, or its designee.


To qualify, you must meet all of the following requirements. Please note that unless specifically indicated, the required education and experience are credited based on a 40-hour workweek.

Education: None required.

Certifications: Basic Life Support certification from the American Heart Association must be presented upon appointment of hire.

Licensures: A valid license with the State of Hawai’i as a Physical Therapist at the time of appointment.

Possession of a active, valid license to drive in the State of Hawai’i.

Experience: None required.

Desirable Qualifications: Ability to handle emergency situations in a calm manner; ability to communicate and work effectively with distraught or agitated individuals.


Applicants must be physically able to perform, efficiently and effectively, the essential duties of the position which typically require the ability to read without strain printed material the size of typewritten characters, glasses permitted, and the ability to hear the conversational voice, with or without a hearing aid, or the ability to compensate satisfactorily.
