JOB LOCATION: HHSC Kaua’i Region – Kaua’i, HI ( Kauai Veterans Memorial Hospital & Samuel Mahelona Memorial Hospital)
FUNCTION AND LOCATION: These positions are assigned to the Community Vaccination Clinic located at Kaua’i Veterans Memorial Hospital (KVMH). KVMH, Samuel Mahelona Memorial Hospital (SMMH), and Kaua’i Region Clinics, are part of the Hawaii Health Systems Corporation, a public benefit corporation of the State of Hawaii, operating in nine (9) facilities statewide.
The Registered Professional Nurses (RPN) will assist by providing immediate age-specific nursing care services to patients in accordance with accepted standards and hospital policies and procedures; and other duties as assigned. These positions are subject to work shifts and although assigned to the Community Vaccination Clinic, the RPNs may be required to assist other nursing units as needed. In addition, these positions may be assigned to work on weekends, extended hours, and may be required to float to any clinic site, and other facilities within Kaua’ i Region based on operational needs in order to provide staffing support services as needed. The RPNs will report to the Assistant Director of Nursing, or its designee.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
To qualify, you must meet all of the following requirements. Please note that unless specifically indicated, the required education and experience are credited based on a 40-hour workweek.
Education: Graduation from an accredited school of nursing.
Licensure: License to practice as a professional nurse in the State of Hawaii; Possession of a motor vehicle operator’s license.
Certification: Basic Life Support (BLS) certification must be present at the time of appointment of hire.
Experience Requirement: One-half (1/2) year of professional nursing experience in a clinic, hospital or institution.
Desirable Qualifications: Possess an understanding of multiple cultures; and keep current in the field.
KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES REQUIRED
Knowledge of: Nursing theory and practice; biological, physical, social and medicinal sciences as related to nursing theory and practice; thorough knowledge of nursing techniques and procedures; nursing literature and current trends and developments in nursing.
Ability to: Apply nursing theory and practices to planning and giving nursing care; recognize, interpret and evaluate symptoms of patient’s condition and take appropriate action; direct the work of nursing assistants; work effectively and cooperatively with patients, family members, medical staff and employees. Must also have the ability to prepare comprehensive nursing diagnosis and nursing care plans; and plan and direct the work of lower level registered nurses and nursing assistants. Familiarity with standards, regulations, requirements of Medicare, Medicaid, Joint Commission, procedures used in surveillance and control of hospital infections.
WORKING CONDITIONS & PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS
Applicants must be physically able to perform, efficiently and effectively, the essential duties of the position which typically require the ability to read without strain printed material the size of typewritten characters, glasses permitted, and the ability to hear the conversational voice, with or without a hearing aid, or the ability to compensate satisfactorily. Disabilities in these or other areas will not automatically result in disqualification. Those applicants who demonstrate that they are capable of performing the essential functions of the position will not be disqualified under this section.

COVID-19 VACCINATION REQUIREMENT
COVID-19 vaccination is a condition of employment for Hawaii Health Systems Corporation. After receiving a conditional offer of employment, all prospective new HHSC employees are required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
