FUNCTION:   This position is located in the Long Term Care Unit of Samuel Mahelona Memorial Hospital (SMMH).  SMMH is part of the Kauai Region, Hawaii Health Systems Corporation, a public benefit corporation of the State of Hawaii operating 13 facilities statewide.

 The Registered Professional Nurse II (RPN II) provides professional nursing care within the LTC; coordinates care with other disciplines.  Provides care that meets the psychosocial, physical and general aspects of care.  Determines priorities of care based on physical and psychosocial needs of patients, as well as factors influencing patient flow through the system.  Communicates with the ED physicians regarding changes in patient’s status, symptomatology and results of diagnostic studies.  Responds quickly and accurately to changes in condition or response to treatment. Position is subject to shift work and may be assigned to cover other nursing units as needed.

The RPN II works under the general supervision of the attending physician and reports to the Director of Nursing (DON).

The primary function of this position (Head Nurse) is to assume the 24-hour accountability for the management and direction of the OR Nursing Services to ensure the provision of optimal care for patients addressing the individualized age-appropriate care needs of patients. This position is responsible to assure the assessing and evaluating of the patients’ immediate and long-term needs in an appropriate and professional manner and developing and implementing care plans based on those needs. Incumbent must be able to carry out nursing procedures, as well as delegate to staff those techniques requiring a high degree of skill and current knowledge. Position may be subject to rotating shifts and may be floated to other nursing units.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
