FUNCTION:  This position is located in the Nursing Services Department of Kauai Veterans Memorial Hospital (KVMH).  KVMH is part of the Kauai Region, Hawaii Health Systems Corporation, a public benefit corporation of the State of Hawaii operating 12 facilities statewide

The primary function of this position is to manage the provision of nursing services and treatment services on an assigned shift – evening, night, or day, under the general direction of the Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON). The Nursing Supervisor shall maintain approved standards of patient care in all nursing units, each of which is under the direction of a head nurse, ensuring the optimal care for patients addressing the individualized age appropriate care needs of patients/residents. Position is subject to rotating shifts and may be floated to other units as needed.

Supervises the nursing care provided to a variety of patients including medical, surgical, pediatric, obstetrical, gynecological, cardiac care, intensive care, and long term care. Functions in close relationship with other services administratively and professionally.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

Education Requirements:  Graduation from an accredited school of nursing.

Experience Requirement:  Two years (2) of professional nursing experience where scope and level of responsibility conclusively demonstrate that he/she has the ability to perform the duties of the position for which he/she is being considered.  Such experience in hospital acute care units, i.e., medical, surgical, pediatric, obstetrical, gynecological, emergency, cardiac care, intensive care preferred

Supervisory Experience:  One half (1/2) year of professional nursing experience which includes:  (1) planning and directing the work of others; (2) assigning and reviewing their work; (3) advising them on difficult problem areas; (4) timing and scheduling their work; and (5) training and developing employees.

Applicants are required to provide current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) in Health Care Provider (adult, child and infant), Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification within one (1) month of employment.

Substitution: Possession of a master’s degree from an accredited college or university school of nursing may be substituted for the six (6) months of required Experience.

FUNCTION:  This position is located in the Waimea Obstetrics Department, Kauai Veterans Memorial Hospital (KVMH).  The Obstetrics/Nursery unit provides all phases of nursing care involving prenatal care, disorders of pregnancy, complications of pregnancy, labor delivery, and care of the newborn and the mother.  This position is responsible for the provision of professional nursing care to patients in accordance with accepted standards and hospital policy.

The primary function of this position provides acute nursing care and treatment services on a 24-hour basis and is responsible for the total age-specific nursing care of the newborn, adult/adolescent patient in the unit.  In the event there are no patients in the unit, this position may be assigned to various units within the Nursing Services and may require cross training and floating as assigned.  Position is also subject to a combination of 12 and 8-hour shifts.

Prerequisite Qualifications Required for the Full Performance Level

The primary function of this position is to assume the nurse manager responsibilities for the organization, management, and direction of nursing services in the Emergency Department to ensure the provision of optimal care for patients while addressing their individualized age-appropriate needs. Incumbent must be able to carry out nursing procedures as well as delegate to staff those techniques requiring a high degree of skill and current knowledge.

Position is subject to shifts, which includes work on weekends and holidays, and may be assigned to cover other nursing units as needed.  This position will cover M-F 3:00pm-11:30pm
