As the Occupational Therapist IV (Regional), you will be responsible to provide therapeutic activities and direct services; develops and evaluates policies, procedures and standards and conducts studies concerning the provision of occupational therapy services to in-patients, residents and outpatients of HHSC Kaua’i Region as an integral member of a multi-disciplinary team. This position works in conjunction with the Physical Therapy department in providing activity programs for the LTC residents at both KVMH and SMMH, including any other duties as assigned. This position may be required to float to and from different facilities within the region as required. The position reports to the Physical Therapist IV (Regional Rehabilitation Services Manager), position number 29281, or its designee.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

To qualify, you must meet all of the following requirements. Please note that unless specifically indicated, the required education and experience may not be gained concurrently. In addition, qualifying work experiences are credited based on a 40-hour workweek. All applicants are required to provide evidence of all applicable education, licenses, and certifications. 

Education: Applicants for all levels must have a baccalaureate degree in occupational therapy from a school of occupational therapy approved at the time of graduation by the American Occupational Therapy Association, Inc. in collaboration with the American Medical Association; or in the case of a foreign-trained person, the credentials indicating completion of an occupational therapy education program shall be evaluated and approved by the Certification Committee of the American Occupational Therapy Association, Inc.  In addition, applicants must have successfully completed the fieldwork requirements prescribed by the degree awarding school.

License: Possession of a valid State of Hawai’i type# 3 driver’s license preferred.

Certification

In accordance with Chapter 457G of the Hawai’i Revised Statues (HRS), all applicants shall:

  • have passed the occupational therapist national certification examination administered by the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT); and
  • be registered with the State of Hawai’i as an Occupational Therapist (OT) at the time of appointment.

Current, valid Basic Life Support (BLS) certification for Healthcare Workers issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) at the time of appointment.

Experience: One (1) year of professional working experience as an Occupational Therapist under medical supervision.  The experience must have equipped the applicant with a full professional understanding of the theories, prevention, and treatment of disabilities by occupational therapy and their proper application by the use of activities, which are appropriate to the patient’s physical and psychological condition and utilizing appropriate manual and other physical skills.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

General Experience: Three (3) years of professional working experience of demonstrated knowledge of and ability to independently prepare various types of foods using various cooking methods (e.g., cooking meats, fish and poultry by various processes, such as roasting, baking, broiling and/or frying).

Supervisory Aptitude: Possession of the demonstration of aptitude or potential for the performance of supervisory duties through successful completion of regular or special assignments which involve some supervisory responsibilities or aspects; by serving as a group or team leader, previous work experience in a position that demonstrates or performs supervisory functions or in similar work in which opportunities for demonstrating supervisory capabilities exist; by completion of training courses in supervision accompanied by application of supervisory skills in work assignments; or by favorable appraisals by a supervisor indicating the possession of supervisory potential.

Select Certification:

  • Of the three (3) years of general experience, must possess a minimum of three (3) years of experience in food service supervisory/management with a strong background in leadership skills, staff training and development, and resource management.
  • Food service experience in healthcare within the past two (2) years.

Desirable Qualifications: Manual dexterity, cleanliness, industriousness, initiative, reliability, and good judgment.

DESIRED SKILLS

Knowledge of: Kitchen management; quantity cookery; the use and care of cooking utensils and equipment; kitchen safety and sanitation requirements; principles and practices of supervision; menu planning; food purchasing and storage.

LOCATION: This is a regional position that is located in the Patient Financial Services (PFS) department of the Hawai’i Health Systems Corporation (HHSC) Kaua’i Region, a public benefit corporation of the State of Hawai’i. HHSC Kaua’i Region consists of Kaua’i Veterans Memorial Hospital (KVMH) and Samuel Mahelona Memorial Hospital (SMMH), both critical access hospitals; The Kaua’i Region Clinics; and its affiliates.

The PFS department is responsible for a variety of fiscal services including patient accounting, admitting/registration (Patient Access – Hospital), financial counseling, payer negotiations, price transparency, charge description master (CDM) management, denial management, Health Information Management (HIM), and financial informatics. The PFS department coordinates activities related to the planning, implementing, and maintaining of all functions pertinent to the PFS areas.

JOB FUNCTIONS: The Chargemaster Coordinator V (Regional) is responsible for the management of the region’s CDM, the key to maintaining revenue integrity. This position works closely with clinical services, finance leadership, and PFS to review and ensure the accuracy and completeness of all billable services in the Kaua’i Region and its affiliates; manages revenue codes and our pricing structure in order to remain competitive and negotiate higher rates from private payers. The Chargemaster Coordinator V (Regional) must be able to maintain open communication with all departments, including providers, and collaborate with PFS and HIM departments to ensure that all clinical documentation and coding practices align with the charge master, as well as educate and update staff of any pricing and billing processes. The Chargemaster Coordinator V (Regional) will also review the CDM for continuous improvement and workflow to ensure appropriate charge capture for all services and items provided to the patient. Other duties include assisting in strategic planning, staffing issues, budget, and cost analysis; logging and managing all Revenue Cycle related Service Requests through Cerner AMS; and performing other duties as assigned.

This Chargemaster Coordinator V (Regional) may work remotely, may require travel to and from all facilities within Kaua’i Region. Position, and may be required to work long hours, work all shifts, weekends, and holidays as directed by the manager.

Experience: Three (3) years of progressively responsible professional work experience in accounting, business services or finance in healthcare operations responsible for maintaining and ensuring accuracy of the Charge Master/Service Catalog and/or healthcare billing and/or coding experience. Working knowledge of internal classification of diseases, 9th edition, clinical modification (ICD-9- CM), physician’s current procedural terminology (CPT), healthcare common procedure coding system (HCPCS), diagnosis related groups (DRG)s, and universal billing form (UB-04) revenue codes.

DESIRED SKILLS
