FUNCTION: This position serves the Kaua’i Region Clinics in Waimea, Port Allen, Kalaheo, Po’ipu, and Kapa’a. The Physician (Extender) is responsible for providing health care services to patients in collaboration with other providers. Duties include case management of patients; performing diagnostic and therapeutic procedures; providing quality, efficient, continuous and cost-effective care during the patient’s visit; and providing support to the family practice; performs physical examinations and health assessments, provides diagnosis formulation and implementation of treatment plans, evaluation, follow-up for health promotion and disease prevention as well as diagnosis and management of acute episodic and chronic illness of a patient; provides consultative and educational services to other providers and staff; improves and develops policies, procedures and guidelines and performs other duties as assigned.

This position is subject to shifts, which includes work on weekends. Incumbent may be required to travel to and from clinics within the region as may be determined by supervisor.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

Education: Master’s Degree in Nursing or a current certification for specialized and advance nursing practice in specialty area from an accredited program approved by a national certifying body recognized by the Board of Nursing or Graduate from an ARC-PA accredited Physician Extender program.

Experience: Three and one-half (3 ½) years of Physician Extender work experience, of which one (1) year must be satisfactory work experience serving in a full supervisory role, group of patient care units in a specific clinical services area or providing consultative and educational services to staff, program administrators and others for the development and improvement of PA-C policies, procedures and practices; organizing and managing a specialized health clinic in support of a hospital, institution or public health medical program; responsibility for implementing PA-C programs, policies and procedures; assuring conformance to doctor’s orders; evaluating the need for and providing emergency treatment services when necessary; determining whether or not to notify the physician of changes in patient’s condition, etc., and assigning and/or rescheduling personnel. Responsibilities include direct support to Kaua’i Region clinicians (physicians, nurses, pharmacists, ancillary and other interdisciplinary team members) in their use of our EMR system; competency validation; evaluating and optimizing internal work flows; and serving as a liaison between our EMR system and EMR vendor to communicate necessary technical enhancements and troubleshooting issues.
