EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, CERTIFICATION, LICENSURE

Education: Applicants must have a baccalaureate degree in respiratory therapy from a school of respiratory therapy approved at the time of graduation by the Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (CoARC) or the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP).

  • Substitutions allowed: An associate degree in respiratory therapy from a program approved at the time of graduation by the Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (CoARC) or the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) and two (2) years of professional experience as a Respiratory Therapist under medical supervision may substitute for a baccalaureate degree in respiratory therapy.

Respiratory Therapy Experience: Two (2) years of professional experience as a Respiratory Therapist under medical supervision. The experience must have equipped the applicant with a full professional understanding of the evaluation, test, and treatment of respiratory therapy problems and the ability to develop and modify individual patient care plans.

Licensure: A valid license with the State of Hawaii as a Respiratory Therapist at the time of appointment.

Certification: None.

FUNCTION: This position is located in the Patient Financial Services Department at Kaua’i Veterans Memorial Hospital (KVMH) and Samuel Mahelona Memorial Hospital (SMMH). The Patient Financial Services Department gathers and processes demographic and financial information to complete patient registration; collects data and inputs information into the hospital’s computer system; provides cashier services, financial counseling, and switchboard services.

The Patient Access Representative II is responsible for interviewing patients and/or accompanying parties to obtain patient demographic and insurance information. Other duties include transfer and discharging patients; switchboard and PA system duties; cashiering duties; and public relations duties.
