FUNCTION:

The primary responsibility of this position is to maintain financial records and ensure that all financial transactions are properly recorded in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and the hierarchy for applying GASB and FASB when appropriate, accounting standards and technical bulletins. This position prepares, processes, and compiles financial data to aid higher level accountants in the preparation of balance sheets, profit and loss statements and other financial reports. This position requires the completion of large volumes of work within limited time periods. The position requires travel to other facilities on a regular basis as determined by the Regional Fiscal Management Officer (RFMO) to provide accounting services to all Kauai Region Facilities.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

Education: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four (4) year college or university with at least 12 semester credit hours in accounting and/or auditing subjects.

Experience: One-half (1/2) year of progressively responsible professional accounting or auditing experience which may have included teaching accounting at the university level preferred.

Certification: None

Licensure: None

Advanced computer skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office Suites including but not limited to Excel, Word, Access, Outlook, and Power point.

FUNCTION: This position is located in the Quality Services Department of Samuel Mahelona Memorial Hospital. SMMH, Kauai Veterans Memorial Hospital (KVMH) and Kauai Region Clinics are part of the Kauai Region Hawaii Health Systems Corporation, a public benefit corporation of the State of Hawaii.

The Registered Nurse (RPN) IV provides Utilization Review and Case Management functions. Under the Utilization Review functions, this position is responsible for the coordination of care and service of selected patient populations through the acute care episode across the continuum. This position also works collaboratively with interdisciplinary teams, both internal and external to the organization to improve patient care through effective utilization and monitoring of health care resources and assumes a leadership role to achieve desired clinical, financial, and resource outcomes. Under the Nurse Case Management functions, this position is responsible for monitoring, coordinating, and facilitating the clinical management for an assigned patient population from admission to post-discharge to optimize clinical care, ensure effective and efficient use of resources, prevent readmissions, enhance patient and provider satisfaction and perform other duties as assigned. Maintains clinical competency in order to assist nursing units in time of need.

This position is required to work weekends, be available for consult as well as travel to and from other facilities within the region.  The RPN IV reports to the Regional Chief Quality Officer, or its designee.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

To qualify, you must meet all of the following requirements.  Please note that unless specifically indicated, the required education and experience are credited based on a 40-hour workweek.

Education: Graduation from an accredited school of nursing. While not required, graduation from a nursing program with a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university is highly desirable.

Licensure:

  • License to practice professional nursing in the State of Hawai’i.
  • Current, valid State of Hawai’i driver’s license is required.

Experience:  One and one-half (1 ½) years of professional nursing experience. One year of experience performing Utilization Review and Case Management functions in a hospital setting preferred.

Certification:

  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association is required at the time of appointment.
  • Certified professional in Case Management preferred.
