FUNCTION: The primary function of this position is to receive incoming patients for the clinic. Interview patients or accompanying parties to obtain data required for physician. Substitution of Education for General Experience:
1. Graduation from high school with courses in basic English and arithmetic may be substituted for six (6) months
of experience.
2. Successful completion of a substantially full-time equivalent clerical or stenographic curriculum leading to a degree or diploma at an accredited community college; or at a business or technical school which included courses in basic English, arithmetic, general clerical procedures, and office machines may be substituted for a maximum of one (1) year of experience provided the duration of the training was for a year or more.
3. Successful completion of a substantially full-time equivalent clerical or stenographic curriculum leading to a degree, diploma, or a certificate of achievement at an accredited community college, business or technical school which was for a period of less than one (1) year will be substituted for experience on a month-for-month basis provided the training included courses in basic English, arithmetic, general clerical procedures, and office machines.
4. Partial Completion of Clerical Training
a. Completion of half a school year of substantially full-time clerical curriculum at an accredited community college, or business and/or technical school which included courses in basic English, arithmetic, general clerical procedures, and office machines, may be substituted for six (6) months of experience.
b. Completion of one (1) school year (of a program of more than one year in length) of substantially full-time clerical curriculum at an accredited community college, or business and/or technical school which included courses in basic English, arithmetic, general clerical procedures, and office machines, may be substituted for one (1) year of experience.
5. Education in an accredited university in a baccalaureate program with courses in English composition and college mathematics may be substituted for experience on the basis of fifteen (15) semester hours for six (6) months of experience, up to a maximum of two (2) years.

FUNCTION:  This position is located in the Emergency Department (ED) of the Nursing Services Department of Kauai Veterans Memorial Hospital (KVMH). KVMH is part of the Kauai Region, Hawaii Health Systems Corporation, a public benefit corporation of the State of Hawaii operating 12 facilities statewide.

The Emergency Department provides nursing and first aid to patients requiring emergency services; assists the physician in the examination and treatment of patients; prepares and maintains records of all emergency cases; and arranges admittance to the hospital as needed. Provides for preoperative and postoperative patients for outpatient surgery.

The Registered Professional Nurse III (RPN III) provides professional nursing care within the ED; coordinates care with other disciplines.  Provides care that meets the psychosocial, physical and general aspects of care.  Determines priorities of care based on physical and psychosocial needs of patients, as well as factors influencing patient flow through the system.  Communicates with the ED physicians regarding changes in patient’s status, symptomatology and results of diagnostic studies.  Responds quickly and accurately to changes in condition or response to treatment. Position is subject to shift work and may be assigned to cover other nursing units as needed.

The RPN III works under the general supervision of the Registered Professional Nurse VII, position number 20861.

Requirements

JOB LOCATION:  Kauai Veterans Memorial Hospital and Samuel Mahelona Memorial Hospital, Waimea/Kapaa, Kauai, Hawaii

    1. FUNCTION AND LOCATION:  This position serves as a systems/applications analyst and as the liaison between the Information Technology Department and the users of the automated systems of the Kauai Region facilities.  This position is responsible for implementing and maintaining information system including but not limited to software, applications, databases, and user devices to support efficient and effective use of information systems for Kauai Region. All duties and responsibilities will be mutually allocated between each Kauai Region facility, based upon their respective needs and criteria. This position requires travel to all facilities within the Kauai Region. May be subject to long and irregular hours, standby/on-call with evening, night, weekend, and holiday coverage as required. This position provides leave coverage for other members of the data processing team within the region.

 

Requirements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To qualify, you must meet all of the following requirements. Please note that unless specifically indicated, the required education and experience are credited based on a 40-hour workweek.

 

Education: Graduation with a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four (4) year college or university.  Major course work in Information Systems, Computer Science, Business Administration, or a closely related field preferred.

 

Experience:  Two and one half (2 ½) years of specialized experience in computer systems analysis which involved the analysis, design, development, documentation, and implementation of computer systems and networks.  Experience in a health care systems and setting preferred.

 

Experience preferred – 2 years specialized experience in hospital computer systems which involves defining users’ and business requirements, analysis and design of network/hardware solutions, evaluation and implementation of systems and networks with preferably at least 1 year in a healthcare or healthcare support facility.

 

 

 

Experience preferred includes experience and basic knowledge in the following environment and systems:

  1. Experience in a LAN and WAN environment which includes minicomputer host system(s), VDI environments, Microsoft OS and healthcare user devices.
  2. High level of competency with applications implementation and support, data troubleshooting, and ensuring data consistency between user departments and facilities.
  3. Experience with video teleconferencing technology and tools.
  4. Working knowledge of Cerner Soarian (formerly Siemens Soarian) and other Soarian related systems operations and commands.
  5. Experience in working with Healthcare related Financial Departments, Revenue Cycles and Quality Assurance Departments.
  6. Experience with Non-EMR related applications such as 3M, Pyxis, Escription, Midas, etc.

Experience preferred includes experience and basic knowledge in the following:

  1. General MS Office Professional Application software – Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Outlook.
  1. General support applications – MS Project. VISIO.
  2. Website design, implementation and maintenance.

4.Experience and a high level of competency in PCs including application configuration and installation.

5.Experience with telecommunications technologies such as video teleconferencing, web conferencing, handheld devices, and wireless environments.

6.Experience in business writing and standard operating procedures for creation of policies, procedures, training materials, operations manuals, technical documentation, newsletters, and other I.T. associated documents.

7.Experience training computer users of all levels of expertise. 

 

E. Analytical skills related to solving problems in time critical situations, particularly where relations must be maintained with potentially difficult systems users.

F. Ability to take action with limited guidance in agreed to areas of responsibility in a calm and rational manner, particularly where the service delivery requirements must be maintained in a time sensitive situation.

The Emergency Department (ED) provides nursing care and first aid to patients requiring emergency services; assists the physician in the examination and treatment of patients; prepares and maintains records of all emergency cases; and arranges admittance to the hospital as required; and for outpatient surgery patients, provides preoperative and postoperative care.

The Registered Professional Nurse III (RPN III) provides professional nursing care within the ED; coordinates care with other disciplines.  Provides care that meets the psychosocial, physical and general aspects of care.  Determines priorities of care based on physical and psychosocial needs of patients, as well as factors influencing patient flow through the system.  Communicates with the ED physicians regarding changes in patient’s status, symptomatology and results of diagnostic studies.  Responds quickly and accurately to changes in condition or response to treatment. Position is subject to shift work and may be assigned to cover other nursing units as needed.

The RPN III works under the general supervision of the attending physician and reports to the Director of Nursing (DON).
