JOB DESCRIPTION
POSITION TITLE: REGISTERED PROFESSIONAL NURSE II
Under the immediate supervision of a higher level Registered Professional Nurse (RPN), the RPN II receives orientation and guidance on nursing policies and procedures and nursing care techniques; develops and/or implements nursing care plans for assigned patients or clients; provides nursing care, treatment services and/or health education information. In addition, these positions are subject to cross training and may be assigned to float and assist other departments within the facility as needed.
Candidates must be available to work shifts, weekends and holidays, based on hospital operations. Services are provided 24/7.

LOCATIONS: These positions are located in the Nursing Services (Emergency Services, Long Term Care, Medical/Surgical, Obstetrics, etc.) departments of HHSC Kaua’i Region. Kaua’i Veterans Memorial Hospital (KVMH), Samuel Mahelona Memorial Hospital (SMMH), and The Kaua’i Region Clinics, which consist of The Clinic at Waimea, The Clinic at Port Allen, The Clinic at Kalaheo, The Specialty Clinic at Kalaheo, The Clinic/Urgent Care at Po’ipu, and The Clinic at Kapa’a are all part of the Kaua’i Region, Hawai’i Health Systems Corporation, a public benefit corporation of the State of Hawai’i.

SALARY: $6,982 per month at 1.0 FTE | SR18 | BU09 **THIS SALARY IS BASED ON 1.0 FTE **

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS
To qualify, you must meet all of the following requirements. Please note that unless specifically indicated, the required education and experience are credited based on a 40-hour workweek. Also, please see below additional requirements according to the specific department.

Education: Graduation from an accredited school of nursing. Graduation from a nursing program with a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university is highly desirable.
Licensure: Valid, active license to practice as a professional nurse in the State of Hawai’i. Applicants must submit evidence of current Hawai’i RN licensure (a copy of valid license).
Experience: None required.
Substitutions Allowed: Possession of a master’s degree from an accredited college or university school of nursing may be substituted for one year of nursing experience.
Certifications: Current certification from the American Heart Association for Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Workers. See below for additional certification requirements based on the department.
Selective Certification: Specialized knowledge, skills and abilities may be required to perform the duties of some positions. In such positions, applicants may be restricted to those who possess the pertinent experience and/or training required to perform the duties of the position. DESIRED KNOWLEDGE & ABILITIES
Knowledge of: Nursing theory and practice; biological, physical, social and medicinal sciences as related to nursing theory and practice; nursing techniques and procedures; nursing literature and current trends and developments in nursing.
Ability to: Apply nursing theory and practices to planning and giving nursing care; recognize, interpret and evaluate symptoms of patient’s condition and take appropriate action; direct the work of nursing assistants; work effectively and cooperatively with patients, family members, medical staff and employees.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Applicants must be physically able to perform, efficiently and effectively, the essential duties of the position which typically require the ability to read without strain printed material the size of typewritten characters, glasses permitted, and the ability to hear the conversational voice, with or without a hearing aid, or the ability to compensate satisfactorily.

COVID-19 VACCINATION REQUIREMENT
COVID-19 vaccination is a condition of employment for Hawai’i Health Systems Corporation. After receiving a conditional offer of employment, all prospective new HHSC employees are required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. BEHAVIORAL HEALTH / PSYCH
Select Certification: Must possess recent Psychiatric or Behavioral Health experience within the past two years as a LPN or equivalent.
Certification: Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) must be obtained within six (6) months of employment.
OBSTETRICS / LABOR & DELIVERY
Certifications: Applicants are also required to obtain the Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP), Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), and Intermediate or Advanced Fetal Monitoring (IFM/AFM) within six (6) months of employment.
Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI); Sugar, Temperature, Airway, Blood Pressure, Labs and Emotional Support (STABLE); and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certifications are highly recommended.
SURGERY / OPERATING ROOM
Certifications: Applicants are also required to obtain the Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), and Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certifications within six (6) months of employment.
