POSITION TITLE: REGISTERED PROFESSIONAL NURSE IV
The Registered Professional Nurse (RPN) IV is responsible for ensuring that the age-appropriate healthcare needs of the adult, geriatric, pediatric and newborn population are provided by either coordinating directly, or in-servicing employees as mandated by all State and Federal Regulations, Joint Commission and other accrediting bodies. This position assists with the planning, development, training, evaluation and coordination of in-service education for hospital/clinic staff, agency, and volunteers. The RPN IV reports directly to the Registered Professional Nurse V (In-Service/Education Nurse Manager), position no. 20862, or its designee.
Candidates must be able to work rotating shifts, weekends and float to other units to assist or take assignments in direct patient services, as needed.. Candidates must also be able to travel to and from different facilities within the Kaua’i Region as assigned based on operational needs.
STATUS: Temporary with Benefits (1.0 FTE)
LOCATION: This position is located in the In-Service Education department of Kaua’i Veterans Memorial Hospital (KVMH). KVMH, Samuel Mahelona Memorial Hospital (SMMH), and The Kaua’i Region Clinics, which consist of The Clinic at Waimea, The Clinic at Port Allen, The Clinic at Kalaheo, The Clinic/Urgent Care at Po’ipu, and the Clinic at Kapa’a are part of the Kaua’i Region, Hawai’i Health Systems Corporation, a public benefit corporation of the State of Hawai’i.
The In-Service Education department develops and initiates orientation programs for new personnel; coordinates, develops, and implements educational programs for on-the-job training and continuing education for all hospital personnel.
SALARY: $9,152.00 per month at 1.0 FTE | SR22 | BU09

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS
To qualify, you must meet all of the following requirements. Please note that unless specifically indicated, the required education and experience are credited based on a 40-hour workweek.
Education: Graduation from an accredited school of nursing.
Licensure: License to practice as a professional nurse in the State of Hawai’i (evidence of licensure is required with application); Possession of a valid motor vehicle operator’s license preferred (Type #3).
Certifications: Current certification from the American Heart Association in Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Workers is required.
Possession of current certifications in Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS); Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS); Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI), Intermediate or Advanced Fetal Monitoring (IFM/AFM); Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP); Sugar, Temperature, Airway, Blood Pressure, Labs and Emotional Support (STABLE) are highly recommended.
Experience: One and one-half years (1-1/2) of professional nursing experience where applicant independently provided nursing care to patients in a clinic, hospital or institution.
Supervisory Aptitude: Candidates must have demonstration possession of supervisory aptitude or potential for the performance of supervisory duties through successful completion of regular or special assignments which involve some supervisory responsibilities or aspects; by serving as a group or team leader; or in similar work in which opportunities for demonstrating supervisory or administrative capabilities exist; by completion of training courses in supervision accompanied by application of supervisory skills in work assignments; or by favorable appraisals by a supervisor indicating the possession of supervisory potential.
DESIRED SKILLS & ABILITIES
Knowledge of: nursing theory and practice; nursing techniques and procedures; nursing literature and current trends and development in nursing; biological, physical, social and medicinal sciences as related to nursing theory and practice; nursing techniques and procedures; Joint Commission requirements, and those of other federal, state, or private regulatory/review organizations with which the hospital interacts.
Ability to: plan and schedule the work of others and utilize the principles and practices of supervision; apply nursing theory and practice in planning and giving nursing care; recognize, interpret and evaluate symptoms of patient’s condition; and take appropriate action. The position should be able to initiate and maintain working relationships with members of the medical staff, administration, nursing and other departments and agencies affiliated with the hospital.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Applicants must be physically able to perform, efficiently and effectively, the essential duties of the position which typically require the ability to read without strain printed material the size of typewritten characters, glasses permitted, and the ability to hear the conversational voice, with or without a hearing aid, or the ability to compensate satisfactorily.

COVID-19 VACCINATION REQUIREMENT
COVID-19 vaccination is a condition of employment for Hawai’i Health Systems Corporation. After receiving a conditional offer of employment, all prospective new HHSC employees are required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
