FUNCTION: This position is located in the Emergency Department (ED) of the Nursing Services Department of Kauai Veterans Memorial Hospital (KVMH). KVMH is part of the Kauai Region, Hawaii Health Systems Corporation, a public benefit corporation of the State of Hawaii operating 9 facilities statewide.

The Emergency Department provides nursing and first aid to patients requiring emergency services; assists the physician in the examination and treatment of patients; prepares and maintains records of all emergency cases; and arranges admittance to the hospital as needed. Provides for preoperative and postoperative patients for outpatient surgery.

The Registered Professional Nurse III (RPN III) provides professional nursing care within the ED; coordinates care with other disciplines. Provides care that meets the psychosocial, physical and general aspects of care. Determines priorities of care based on physical and psychosocial needs of patients, as well as factors influencing patient flow through the system. Communicates with the ED physicians regarding changes in patient’s status, symptomatology and results of diagnostic studies. Responds quickly and accurately to changes in condition or response to treatment. Position is subject to shift work and may be assigned to cover other nursing units as needed.

The RPN III works under the general supervision of the Registered Professional Nurse VII, position number 20861.

Requirements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To qualify, you must meet all of the following requirements. Please note that unless specifically indicated, the required education and experience are credited based on a 40-hour workweek.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENT: Graduation from an accredited school of nursing.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT: Six (6) months of responsible professional nursing experience.

CERTIFICATION: BLS & ACLS certification required within six (6) months from date of hire.

SELECT CERTIFICATION: Of the six (6) months professional nursing experience required, six (6) months of professional nursing experience must have been in emergency services.

LICENSE REQUIREMENT: License to practice as a professional nurse in the State of Hawaii. Applicants must submit evidence of current Hawaii RN licensure (a copy of valid license) at the time of appointment.

JOB LOCATION: Samuel Mahelona Memorial Hospital, Kapaa, Kauai, Hawaii & Kauai Veterans Memorial Hospital Waimea, HI

***THIS POSITION IS REGIONAL AND WILL REPORT TO EITHER LOCATION***

FUNCTION: This position is located in the Patient Access Services Department of the Fiscal & Patient Services Section at Samuel Mahelona Memorial Hospital and Kauai Veterans Memorial Hospital Waimea.  It is one (1) of nine facilities within the Hawaii Health Systems Corporation.

The Patient Access Representative II is responsible for interviewing patients and/or accompanying parties to obtain patient demographic and insurance information. Other duties include transfer and discharging patients; switchboard and PA system duties; cashiering duties; and public relations duties. This position will be required to work shifts, weekends, and/or holidays in multiple locations within the facility to meet the needs of the patients.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

To qualify, you must meet all of the following requirements. Please note that unless specifically indicated, the required education and experience may not be gained concurrently. In addition, qualifying work experiences are credited based on a 40-hour workweek.

Education Requirement: High school diploma or equivalent.

Experience Requirement: General Experience: Two (2) years of typing, stenographic, clerical work, cashiering, data input, customer service skills or any combination of these experiences which duties demonstrated knowledge of English grammar, spelling, arithmetic, standard office equipment; and the ability to read and understand oral and written instructions, carry out procedures in clerical work systems, speak and write simply and directly, observe differences in copy and proofread words and numbers quickly and accurately, and operate various kinds of office equipment; and ability to deal effectively with others in eliciting information and providing service.

Patient Access Rep II: In addition to general experience, specialized experience is required

Specialized Experience: One (1) year of work experience performing admission activities in a hospital; interviewing patients and/or responsible persons to secure information, securing signatures for insurance benefits; arranging for method of payment for costs not covered by insurance; and preparing admitting records.
